“ The “bracket of death” was also removed at that time but can also be included.”
I dunno what that is, but why would I want it?

Dang, that’s a nice car.

Some people love original stuff even if it’s stupid.
The whole bottom of the car is flat and the only thing that hangs down from the factory is an over sized resonator and a metal bracket nearby. It can be easily caught on something and rip off pieces of the car. It’s like 5 inches from the ground at stock ride height.

I’ll give you 5k and a box of chicken bakes from Costco.

Gorgeous! I could live with an automatic in this, I think.
Wish I was in the market - how ‘bout a trade for a naturally aspirated, 175k mile ‘02 V70 with 3 pedals & a few electrical gremlins?

Hmmm.... it has the less desirable automatic. And I see you admitted that you haven’t been driving it much. So that means it has been sitting.
Clearly this means the value has dropped.
I’ll do you a favour and offer you CAD$900 for it.

It wouldn’t be a modern Volvo without electrical gremlins!

They turned me down because it’s an auto...even though two of the five R’s sold this year were autos. Four of the five were silver. Who knows.

Thanks. I will miss it a lot.

Indeed. Not that the P2 platform is exactly “modern” to most people, but considering I’ve been driving 240s for much of the last 30 years, it seemed like the Space Shuttle when I first picked it up.

I bet it was quite the change. 240's are pretty strange because they span solid rotors, carburetors , and points to abs, fuel injection, and air bags. It’s pretty weird to have the same platform make so many leaps.
The P2 platform is definitely old at this point but electronically it was far ahead of a lot of other manufacturers at the time and for many years after. They’re solid cars and cheap to buy/ operate at this point.

They’re solid cars and cheap to buy/operate* at this point.
*With the caveat of “for the DIYer”, as they’re maintenance intensive.
That said, it was a hell of a lot more enjoyable driving this one (the V70) from Seattle to southern Vermont & back last summer, vs the same round trip one year earlier in my ‘87 244DL. More comfortable, much bigger fuel tank, 35 mpg at 80 mph across much of I-90/94, to say nothing of having effective AC & being able to maintain speed in the mountains.
My ‘87 is like a pair of utterly thrashed favorite boots or old sweatshirt - not the greatest tool for much of anything anymore, but too comfy & loved to just get rid of. Plus, there’s the fact that I tore into the dash more than a year ago to replace the heater fan, and haven’t manage to finish that...
eta: I don’t know if we ever got carb’d 240s in the US. My ‘76 244DL was FI, as was the ‘73 145 that followed it. The 140s saw a change from carbs to FI in ‘71-72, IIRC; however, there were some Euro markets that saw smaller displacement redblocks when North America was getting the B23/B230 engines.

I forgot they have random morons in charge of selecting what cars go up for sale. I guess the one guy that would have said yes had the day off.

Oh yeah, you’re right about the DIY. The non turbos and fwd varieties aren’t too bad on maintenance. Three fewer places for fluid and a lot less parts at least.
R’s are kind of an outlier and get a bad rap because people tended to modify them. Other than
cosmetics
they’re identical to any other AWD P2...with the exception of brakes and the bespoke suspension. Brakes are easy because they last forever. Seriously, there are modern "performance" cars that don't use 4-pot Brembos in the rear.
Struts are a one time gut punch.
